"Canva geeeeeeng!" 🔥

"Clooock itt!" 💃🏾

"Fully Active!" 🕺🏾

Weeks later, I can still hear those chants ringing in my head.

On May 30th, I had the incredible privilege of hosting what became the biggest Canva Community Labs event in Accra to date, bringing together an astounding 517 creatives under one roof.

And honestly? It exceeded every expectation.

More Than Just an Event

517 creatives. One photo. One community.

Community Labs has always been about creating spaces where people can learn, connect, and grow together. But there was something different about this one.

From the moment attendees started arriving, the energy in the room was electric. Conversations sparked instantly. New friendships were formed. Ideas flowed freely. Everywhere you looked, people were connecting over a shared passion for creativity.

Throughout the day, we explored Canva, discovered new ways to create, collaborated with one another, and most importantly, had a lot of fun.

But one activity stood above the rest.

The Group Design Competition

One of the highlights of the day was our group design challenge.

We divided attendees into over 70 teams and gave each group a mission: Build a complete business website using Canva.

Simple instruction. Big challenge.

What happened next was remarkable. Teams immediately began brainstorming ideas, assigning responsibilities, sketching concepts, and bringing their visions to life. The room transformed into a buzzing hub of creativity and collaboration.

Some teams focused on restaurants. Others built websites for fashion brands, tech startups, beauty businesses, and social enterprises. Within a short period, ideas that existed only in conversation became fully visualized websites.

Watching Creativity Come Alive

As I moved from group to group, I witnessed something powerful.

People who had never met before were working together like longtime teammates. Individuals who were initially quiet found the confidence to share ideas. Designers, entrepreneurs, students, and content creators all contributed their unique perspectives to solve a common challenge.

The creativity on display was outstanding.

But beyond the designs themselves, it was the teamwork, confidence, and problem-solving that impressed me the most. The challenge wasn't really about building websites. It was about showing people what is possible when creativity meets collaboration.

The Power of Community

When we started building the Canva Community in Ghana, the vision was simple: create opportunities for people to learn, grow, and create together.

Seeing 517 people show up and actively participate reminded me why community matters.

Community creates confidence. Community creates opportunities. Community creates momentum.

And when hundreds of ambitious creatives come together in one room, amazing things happen.

Looking Ahead

The incredible volunteer team behind the scenes.

As I reflect on the event, I feel nothing but gratitude.

To every attendee who showed up with enthusiasm. To every volunteer who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. To every speaker, facilitator, and supporter who helped make the day possible — thank you.

You helped create something truly special.

And if this Community Labs experience taught me anything, it's that we're only getting started. The future of creativity in Africa is bright. After witnessing the talent, passion, and ambition in that room, I couldn't be more excited for what's next.

Until the next Community Labs... Canva geeeeeeng! 🔥
