The Story

From a warehouse floor to leading Africa's biggest Canva community.

Benjamin didn't plan any of this. He just started sharing what he was learning — for free, every week — and the continent showed up.

Benjamin tells the story

In his own words · ~60 sec

It started in 2017. A warehouse. Evening classes. And a dream he hadn't named yet.

Benjamin worked warehouse shifts by day and attended university classes every evening. The cycle was relentless — work, school, home, repeat. But in the gaps, he was teaching himself technology, design, everything he could find.

Around that time he built a Facebook page called Beautiful African Continent — because he was tired of the world only seeing one version of Africa. He wanted to show the beauty, the culture, the richness. He had no plan. He just cared.

That instinct — show the world what Africa really is — never left him. It just found a new form: design.

In 2019 he lost the warehouse job. It could have been the end. Instead it became the turning point. He went all in on design and on sharing what he was learning — for free, every week, with no guarantee anyone would watch.

A few people watched. Then a few hundred. Then a WhatsApp group of 12 designers became thousands across Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, Senegal — designers who were hungry for someone to teach Canva in a way that made sense for them. With African contexts. African examples. African currencies.

Canva noticed. In 2021 they named Benjamin a Verified Canva Expert and the official Community Lead for Africa — one of fewer than 100 people globally with that credential.

African Geek is now 139K on Instagram, 622+ tutorials deep, home to over 4,500 designers, and still going — one free tutorial at a time.

“There's no limit to creativity. Even the sky isn't the limit. Beyond the sky is the limit.”

Why it's free

“I don't have a big mindset of making money. I just want to help.”

Every tool, tutorial, and template on this site is free. Not as a growth strategy. Not as a funnel. Because Benjamin knows what it's like to be learning with limited resources, no mentor, and no roadmap.

He was that person. And he doesn't want money to be the reason the next person can't grow.

If you're ready to help yourself, he's ready to help you. That's the whole deal.
